From time to time I get the itch to do some hand stitching. The last time I got such an itch I found an adorable little pattern e-book at Needle n’ Thread that not only included five different designs for four little projects, but also had excellent tutorials on all the stitches. The site is a great resource for learning or improving your embroidery skills, I highly recommend it.
One of those projects was this little needle book. It is stitched with silk, wool, and cotton threads on linen. The interior is made of a wool blend felt, and the tie is made of silk embroidery floss. To stiffen it up, there is a two inch square of Peltex on each side behind the felt. I really wish I had thought to take a close up photo of the bees, as the wings are stitched with an iridescent thread that looks pretty neat.
I made this just for the fun of learning new stitches, so I gifted it to a fellow stitcher. Hopefully it will get some use there, since the recipient loves to cross stitch while I use machine needles more often than hand needles.
