I am pretty excited about the current Reddit gift exchange I joined, Needlecraft 2015. A Reddit gift exchange is pretty much like Secret Santa. When the exchange is announced people add their names to a virtual hat. When the sign up period closes, a computer program randomly matches the participants, just as if you were drawing a name from the hat.
The matching was yesterday. I really doubt my match can find her way to this site, there is no connection between this site and my rarely used Reddit account. So I can share! My match’s profile stated that she loved cross stitch, hadn’t found needles she really liked yet, and was interested in any Halloween cross stitch patterns or London themed stuff. She also mentioned that she wanted to try the new Aurifil Aurifloss… join the club! I couldn’t find it anywhere, or I would have gotten some for both of us.
When I read about her search for a good needle I immediately thought about Tulip’s Hiroshima needles. These are rather expensive for needles, but they are packaged in cute little colorful boxes that are perfect for gifting and I always hear good things about them. I haven’t tried them myself yet, as I have always balked at the price… it seemed like a good gift though, and an excellent excuse to get some for myself while I was at it. So, I have ordered an assortment of tapestry/cross stitch needles for my girl and some appliqué and embroidery needles for myself. I will have to see if they live up to the hype.
I also found a Halloween-ish cross stitch sampler pattern, and tossed in a couple skeins of Weeks Dye Works floss to get her started on it. I wish I could have bought all the threads and some nice linen for her, but it just isn’t in the budget right now. I was going to get her something London-y as well, but the only thing I found that I was interested in was a download, and I wasn’t really sure how to go about that. I could have printed it for her and sent a digital copy as well, but then she might have been afraid of what strange virus this internet stranger had hidden with it. Also, that would technically be redistributing the pattern, which pretty much all downloadable patterns expressly forbid.
I am eagerly awaiting shipment on these so that I can bundle them up and send them out to my match, maybe with a little treat of some kind tossed in. Gift giving is so much fun! I really hope she likes what I picked out. It is strange how nervously excited I am about sending a gift to someone I don’t even know and will most likely never hear from again, if ever.
As for whoever was matched with my name… they have retrieved my information, but there is no way for me to know anything other than that until they say they have shipped it out. If they ship anything; there is always the chance they won’t.[manual_related_posts]
